Quick answers to common questions
We're students balancing academics and extracurriculars, so we typically respond within 3-5 business days. During exam periods or school breaks, responses may take a bit longer. If your inquiry is time-sensitive, please note that in your message.
Absolutely! While Heart in Hand was founded at Westridge School, we welcome student volunteers from any school in the area. Check out our Become a Member page for requirements and application information.
Our workshops are designed to be hands-on and engaging. We use a mix of demonstrations, activities, and games to teach health concepts in ways that stick. For example, we might use glow-in-the-dark gel to show how germs spread, create nutrition plate activities, or lead interactive discussions about healthy habits. Each workshop is tailored to the grade level we're teaching and typically lasts 60 minutes.
Contents vary based on the facility and patient population, but typically include comfort items like cozy socks, puzzles or word games, journals, lip balm, lotion, and other toiletries. We also include a handwritten note of encouragement from our volunteers.
Heart in Hand is a student-led initiative, not a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We operate as an informal volunteer group organized and run by students. Learn more on our Who We Are page.
